ITC Level 2 Award in Bicycle Maintenance
The qualification will be applicable to a range of work environments, such as Outdoor Centres, bicycle hire facilities, bicycle shops, local authority provision, alternative education provision, anywhere where the maintenance of bicycles is required.
This regulated level 2 qualification is designed to provide learners with fundamental Bicycle maintenance skills and knowledge.
There are no formal entry requirements. Direct entry for any learner who would benefit from the programme. Learners are expected to undertake self-directed study and portfolio development.
It has been developed with support and input from ITC training providers, Prison and Probation service, The Cycle Project UK, and a Charity Rebuild with Hope.
Delivery
The trainers delivering this award will have suitable and sufficient experience in bicycle maintenance, alongside teaching and assessing qualifications.
The qualification is derived from 1 mandatory unit:
- Introduction to Bicycle Maintenance
Topics include: Health and safety for a workshop environment, bicycle components, maintenance and safety checks, wheel and tyre maintenance and repair, checks and maintenance on chain, derailleur and gear shifter components, checks and maintenance on a V brake system, checks and maintenance on the bottom bracket, cranks, pedals, and headset, bicycle build.
